Clutter, Laundry, and Useless Stuff

As I begin this journey into finding myself it has become very apparent that I spend a lot of wasted time looking for things. In order to find myself I need to have more time to try things. It has become abundantly clear that my little family of 8 has accumulated entirely too much stuff!

So as my little ones like to say it's time to "Let it go. Let it GOO" Because lets face it I have boxes and drawers and closets of stuff that during various hormonal upheavals or depressive episodes or even better particularly motivated and can do phases I decided that I needed to obtain and hold on to this stuff.

Why?

Because, in that moment, I either felt it was important to hold on to for sentimental purposes or because I "MIGHT" be able to reuse or re purpose. Some things were purchased simply because I saw some silly pinterest idea that I thought I might like to try but never got around to and don't even remember what it was. Now I look and see a bunch of junk and wonder... "What was I thinking?!""Why did I keep that?""Why did I BUY that?"

This was me trying to be like that perfect stay at home pinterest mom with the 2.5 kids. You know the ones. The moms who appear to have all of their sh*t together. Let's be real now. Any day that ends with all of my children alive, fed, happy and I haven't ended up admitted to the looney bin or locked in my bathroom crying on the floor... Has been a successful day.

With 6 kids there is always things that need done. Someone needs to go somewhere. Something needs to be purchased last minute for some school project or because someone ran out of supplies and didn't bother to let me know until it was needed RIGHT NOW. Throw that in with a full time job and purging useless stuff has taken a backseat. Until now.

Where to Begin?

Man oh Man! Most moms can relate (I think) to the never ending laundry situation. Now imagine laundry for 8. I am DROWNING in it! My first thought was I would begin in the laundry room. About 10 minutes into sorting I realized that all of the closets in my house have pretty much turned into places for unused stuff to accumulate out of sight. And I want, no NEED, to be able to put stuff where it belongs as I am de-cluttering. So that is where I decided I needed to start so that I wouldn't be adding clutter to re-sort later. It really is a small area that can make a huge difference.

Now, as I am going through boxes and throwing away tons of saved schoolwork I realize that my trash bags simply cant handle the weight. As soon as I started trying to pick them up the bags were tearing from the shear weight of papers. I needed another option. After asking around it was reccommended that I give Hippo Saks a try. Man I was impressed! These things can hold some weight! And to be honest the price isn't much different than my old trash bags. I especially love the strong thick grocery style handles! I would recommend these bags to ANYONE! I cant wait to try some of their other bags!

Once I finished cleaning out the clutter I decided to re-utilize some under, properly used, used cube storage shelves to create a dresser of sorts in our master bedroom walk in closet and do away with the traditional dresser to further reduce clutter and eliminate flat accumulation space. What I love about these is that simple command hooks can be added to the sides to utilize for a variety of scarves, ties, necklaces etc.

Man it has been a day and then some but overall I feel accomplished! I think I have earned a glass or two of wine while I cook dinner and get my mind off of my next project of tackling the white elephant of laundry.  Watch for tomorrows post as I will be doing a step by step recipe for my Raspberry Glazed Pork Loin with Rosemary Roasted Potatoes. It is amazing and so simple to recreate!

I would love to hear some great stories of ways that you have found to re-utilize under used items in your home! Also if you are enjoying these posts please leave a comment down below! I am always up for trying new ideas, recipes and products so leave a suggestion!
