Drugstore Skincare Haul #1 L'Oreal
Ok. So apparently when looking for facial products it is mildly important to know your skin type. After some extensive research I determined that I fall somewhere between normal to combination. I do get an oily t-zone while most of my face falls into the normal zone but I tend to get dry skin along my jaw line. As a result of mother hood, lack of sleep, not the greatest diet, age, and who knows what other factors I have begun the cycle of perpetual dark circles and under eye bags with fine lines starting in the eye area... So I am in for the haul. But it also gives me a great opportunity to see what works and what just doesn't live up to its hype.
So with this knowledge I made my way to the drugstore. OMG! I never in my life thought I would literally get over whelmed by the shear number of products available! So many brands and each brand with multiple lines. I didn't want to completely overwhelm my skin since it really has not been touched and the last thing I need is to piss my face off and become the epitome of a tomato. So I decided to start of with some basic cleansing and moisturizing.
For cleansers I picked up 1 cream cleanser, 1 toner, 1 scrub and 1 clay mask. For moisturizers I picked up 1 day, 1 night, and 1 eye cream
Cleanser: L'Oreal Revitalift Radiant Smoothing Cream Cleanser 👎
As far as cleansers go this one is pretty standard. Being a wash my face in the shower type of girl this does the job. The product is thinner than I was expecting for the type of packaging it is in and being labeled as a cream cleanser. For this consistency I would like to have seen it in more of a pump or pour style bottle or something similar. I will say as far as applying it it goes on soooo creamy and feels great and rinses off so easily which I did really enjoy. The smell however... to be frank it smells like a white industrial bar soap... Not pleasant. Not terrible. Just soap. I definitely prefer the smell of my old go to Baby Magic Baby Wash (don't judge me!).And the smell tends to linger for a bit. Overall my face does feel clean and soft so I'm not upset with the product I just probably won't purchase it again.
Toner : L'Oreal Hydrafresh Toner 👍
Ok. I am a believer that washing your face twice a day every day is complete overkill and can lead to more skin problems that it helps solve. That being said I can understand that many women want a clean base to begin their morning makeup routine with so I picked up a basic toner for this purpose. The smell of this product is lightly powdery but fades quickly. My skin was left feeling clean and refreshed and slightly tight but not overly stripped and dry like I have experienced with many toners in the past. I did enjoy the fresh clean feeling that it left me with. Overall I am happy with this toner and would definitely buy it again.
Scrub: L'Oreal Pure-Sugar Resurface & Energize Kona Coffee Scrub 👍
Let me start by saying the smell of this stuff is WOW. If you love coffee as much as I do you will fall in love with the smell immediately! The base of this scrub is like a fine oil but not greasy. The scrub is super fine and not real scratchy as you massage it over your face. It's actually quite pleasant and works great as a lip scrub as well. It rinses off quite easily and it left my face feeling smooth, fresh, hydrated and my extremely tired skin looking noticeably brighter and overall more awake even after just one use! This is a product that will be staying in my collection!
Clay Mask: L'Oreal Pure-Clay Detox & Brighten Charcoal Clay Mask 👎
This is another product I wasn't super impressed with. While the product went on easier and smoother than many clay masks I have experimented with in the past and had a super creamy feel that i really enjoyed. I honestly couldn't feel when it had begun to dry down without looking in the mirror or touching my face. After rinsing my face I really haven't been able to see much difference than I do by simply running a warm wet wash cloth over my face with a medium pressure. For the price point I can name a dozen other less expensive clay masks that overall leave my skin feeling the same for those special days where I just want to feel like I am pampering myself a little extra.
Eye Cream: L'Oreal RevitaLift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Eye Cream 🙈🙉🙊
Ok I am no expert when it comes to eye creams. This one I have to say I am not hating. The product description states that "Firmer lids. Fewer Wrinkles. Less Puffiness. Now, 360-degree action around the eyes for smoother, firmer skin in just 4 weeks. This unique daily moisturizer delivers anti-wrinkle and firming action, created specially to care for the delicate area around the eyes.Experience advanced action against the signs of aging. RevitaLift® Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Eye Cream (with Pro-Retinol A and Stimuplex) reduces wrinkles, firms skin, and reduces the “morning puffy look.” "
Now I know that it has only been a little over a weeks time since I began using this product but at this time I am not seeing much difference. My eye area does look more hydrated but the slight puffiness and fine lines are still pretty obvious. The product does feel good going on. It is a nice thick cream so a little definitely does the job. I do get a bit of tingle when it is applied which is from the Pro-Retinol A but as said I have not really seen any difference yet so I will hold my judgement for now and give and update later.
Day Cream : L'Oreal RevitaLift Volume Filler 👍
Now I have not been able to find this product online anywhere other than L'Oreal's website so I am uncertain if it is a new product or one that they are phasing out. According to the packaging this is a "Re-Volumizing Day Cream Moisturizer" that is supposed to replenish skin's fullness and smooth lines and wrinkles and contains Hyaluronic Acid. This product has a light powder scent which is soothing in itself and totally not overwhelming. The cream is a lightweight consistency that smooths on beautifully with out leaving you with a greasy feeling (even in my slightly oily t-zone area). This cream also absorbs fairly quick into my skin and I have noticed a slight improvement in the fine lines that I have started to notice around my smile lines and in my forehead. According to the L'Oreal website this product is also good for the under eye area. I have purposefully avoided using this and the night cream in the under eye area because I want to give the eye cream a chance to shine on its own. So far I am happy with this selection. I love its non greasy formula. I love how well it absorbs into the skin. I am loving the (even though minor) reduction in fine lines that I am seeing. It is super hydrating and my skin is beginning to come across as more youthful that when I started. We are going to call this one a win!
Night Cream: L'Oreal RevitaLift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Night Cream Moisturizer 👍👎
Now again I am not an expert when it comes to moisturizers. The smell on this one is definitely not as pleasant as the day cream that I selected. The scent is kind of a mixture of sunscreen and baby powder. The formula is much thicker than I was expecting and while I know night creams are supposed to be a more intense moisturizer I really don't care for the greasy residue that this particular one leaves on the skin all the way until the next morning. (This is where my toner has come in super handy in the mornings.) However, again I am seeing a difference in the fine lines around my smile lines and forehead so not 100% on if its the day or night cream doing the job. Would I buy this product again? Yes. Do I feel like this would become a go to item for me? Probably not.
I have to say that this journey so far has already become quite the experience and I am looking forward to trying new products. If you hear of a product you would like me to try or have any tips for me leave a comment or drop me an E-Mail.
